Alex was born and raised in Nias, an island north of Sumatra, where he often embarked on Nias surf trips. Living just down the road from Sorake Point, you could find him on the beach surfing whenever he had the chance. He wanted nothing more than to be in the water to improve his skills, often skipping school to receive life lessons from the ocean. Balance, right? After a knee injury, he stopped surfing professionally and dedicated his time to teaching others about surfing. Alex is a registered ISA surf coach with a lifeguard certificate because safety comes first! Since 2015, Alex has been based in Bali, where he lives with his wife and two kids. Together, they started Front Foot Surf with the mission of sharing the joy, challenge, and connection that surfing brings. For Alex, surfing is all about having fun in nature, meeting new people, and challenging yourself both mentally and physically. "Surfing is more than a passion. It’s a way of living."
