SURF NIAS
Small-group surf trips and coaching with Alexs, born and raised in Sorake.
We run surf trips in Nias throughout each year. You can choose your own arrival and departure dates within this period, staying for 10 or 14 days, depending on your schedule.
If you ever dreamed of catching waves in clear blue water surrounded by palm trees and beautiful beaches then Nias is the place to go!
The main break in Lagundri Bay is “Sorake Point”, a world-class right-hander along the western side of the bay. Nias waves are pretty much pumping all year round, with some bigger waves from July to October.
This trip will give you feedback and support to grow as a surfer - whether that’s improving technique, refining positioning, or developing more confidence on challenging waves. Whatever your goal, the Front Foot Surf team will help you achieve it.
You will leave this trip as a stronger, more confident surfer with memories of sharing world-class waves in a positive, motivating environment.
Spots are limited per week to keep coaching quality high.

Frequently asked questions
What surf level do I need to be to join?
All levels are welcome. Sorake Point, right in front of the accommodation, offers a range of sections depending on the conditions and your ability. For beginners and progressing surfers, there's also Langundri Beach just down the road, which works well on bigger days. We will help you find the right waves and conditions for your level.
In case you're wondering, we've lined up the most FAQ below. Don't be shy to get in touch via hello@frontfootsurf.com
if you can't find the answer to your question here.
What are the waves like in May & June?
May and June are some of the most consistent months of the year in Nias. Expect regular swell, warm water, light winds, and plenty of opportunities to surf. Conditions are often ideal for intermediate and advanced surfers, while beginners can still find suitable waves at nearby spots.
What does a typical day look like?
Every day is a little different depending on the surf, tides, and the group, but generally you'll surf twice a day, review footage with Alexs, work on specific goals, eat well, relax, and enjoy island life. There's plenty of time to rest between sessions and soak up the Nias atmosphere.
How do I get there?
Getting to Nias is part of the adventure! From Bali, the journey typically takes around 12 hours and usually involves 2 or 3 flights, depending on the route and airline schedules.
The most common options are:
Bali → Medan → Nias
Bali → Jakarta → Medan → Nias
Depending on the time of year, other routes may also be available, such as via Kuala Lumpur.
Don't worry about figuring it all out yourself - we're happy to help you find the best flight options and coordinate your arrival. Once you land in Nias, we'll be there to pick you up and take you to the accommodation.
What should I bring?
Bring your surfboards, a few sets of fins, leash, wax, reef booties if you like wearing them, sunscreen, surf hats or rash guards, light clothing, and any personal medication. Nias is warm year-round, so you won't need much beyond your surf gear and everyday essentials. If you're unsure about board choice, just ask Alex before the trip.
What are the waves like in October & November?
October and November are a bit quieter and less crowded, but still offer plenty of quality surf. Swells are generally smaller and more manageable than peak season, making it a great time for surfers looking to build confidence, improve technique, and enjoy longer sessions in the water.
How does it work - Booking dates

As soon as you let us know you are in and let us know your preferred payment method (Revolut/Wise/PayPal), we will send you the payment details. The moment we receive your deposit, your spot is confirmed!
How is the WiFi connection?
The WiFi is generally reliable, and 4G coverage is good around Sorake. Many guests work remotely during their stay and have no trouble with emails, video calls, or other online work.
What about airport pickup and drop-off?
We've got you covered. Airport pickup and drop-off are included. We'll make sure you get safely from the airport to your accommodation and back again at the end of the trip.
